Sony in talks to build 20m x 100m LCD screens for 2010 World Cup

Last week Sony representatives met with a Japenese vendor about building half a dozen 20 meters tall, 100 meters wide HD screens (I recently spoke to the man who facilitated the meeting between the two parties).  The idea is to display the entire field for 2010 World Cup matches in select cities across Europe and possibly South America.

The equipment would be branded and distributed by Sony but built by the unnamed Japanese company becuase Sony discontinued its “Jumbotron” production seven years ago.  Although the obvious use would be to display these screens in outdoor venues, some talk has been made about placing them inside existing stadiums as apparently wind is a big factor with freestanding equipment of this size and weight.

Yes this is history in the making… breaking news on MMB
